Griswold - Huet - ajustable micrometer spirit level, inclinometer - .00012" foot

Here is a Huet No. 31005 that was made in Paris, France for F. T. Griswold in Watne, Pennsylvania. It is an ajustable micrometer spirit level, inclinometer that is accurate into the .00012" per foot. It was made on 09-21-1955. They don't make them like this anymore. This level is a beauty! There are definitely not many of these still out there. It is a rare beautiful level that may deserve to be in a museum. When I received it, I brought to to a compressor base that a crew of very good millwrights had been setting for weeks. This base was very level, square, and set to elevation within a few thousands. I thought is was level enough to see if this Huet level was in tolerance or not. I quickly realized that I needed to take it to a reliable place to have it certified. I took it to Cal Lab. A calibration laboratory in Merrillville, Indiana. They carefully did their magic to it and it is now a certified level/inclinometer. They put their certification stickers on it. This level measures 7 1/16" x 2 7/16" on the bottom, and it is approximately 6 5/8" tall when the micrometer is maxed out. There are two levels on the top of it, also there is a split bubble on it so you can really "zero" your project in. The micrometer turns easily without any hesitations. Smooth! This level has been used so you will find a few very minor cosmetic imperfections but nothing that will hinder its usefulness. It is in excellent condition, especially for its age. The protective case is also in very good condition. It opens and closes easily, locks shut,  and holds this level securely. It will continue to protect it for years to come.
